Local businesses help City divers reach new heights.
Three Yorkshire-based businesses have joined forces to create a unique scholarship fund for the City of Sheffield Diving Club.
TRI-Sports Consultancy, SC Sports, and FM247 Group are offering the club a financial boost to help young athletes needing extra support for training and competing at all levels.
With backgrounds in sport infrastructure and grassroots development Matt Bartle of TRI-Sports and Scott Ward of SC Sports recognised the difficulty many athletes face in achieving their goals in less commercially driven sports. FM247 Group, a facilities management business, joined the initiative after working with TRI-Sports on a number of developments around the country. Gary Horton, Director of FM247 Group said; “When Matt talked to us about the scheme we wanted to be involved straight away. We’re a Sheffield business with a social conscience and as such thought it was a great opportunity to support young athletes in our area”
Matt Bartle said: “Sheffield Diving is an exciting and unique club that offers expertise and training for over 400 children every week. For these young sportspersons to be coached and supported by some of the best athletes and coaches in the country is an invaluable experience that stays with them throughout their life. Sport isn’t a level playing field in terms of funding and we’re keen to plug the gap and help young athletes where we can. ”
Sheffield Diving Head Coach Tom Owens said: “Participation in sport shouldn’t be prohibited by financial circumstance. It’s fantastic to have local businesses supporting local athletes. The scholarship fund will ensure that mounting costs won’t be a limiting factor for them to fulfil their potential. We’re looking forward to working with all three businesses, drawing on their knowledge and expertise to explore new opportunities for the organisation.”
The Sheffield Diving Scholarship fund will be launched on 14 January 2019.
